“The Sophia Institute is a kind of loom upon which a whole community can weave together its colorful diversity into an organic, riotous cloth of beauty. Out of the creative tension here, much art emerges. Songs to the earth, poetry that reforms us, visual and tactile grace that leads us back to the soul, and, at the same time, flings us out into a fierce engagement with the world. That is why I am honored to be Artist in Residence here, because I want to be a part of something that matters deeply, and all that matters most is woven here by many, and takes its impulse from love.”

– Susan Hull Walker, Woman of the cloth, weaver of story, textile artist and writer
