John Welwood, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, teacher, and author. He trained in existential psychology and worked closely with Eugene Gendlin at the University of Chicago, where he received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology. He has also been a practicing student of Buddhism and Eastern contemplative psychologies for forty years. In the 1980s he emerged as a major contributor to the leading-edge fields of transpersonal psychology and East/West psychology. He is the former Director of the East/West psychology program at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco and is currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology. John’s current teaching is largely focused on embodied psycho-spiritual work. He also trains health professionals in “psychological work in a spiritual context.”
